Cooper John Lee had just dropped a motorbike off to a friend at Boyne Island and was returning home when he crashed his car shortly before midnight.
Police were called to the scene on Boyne Island Road on January 6, and after they arrived they saw 19-year-old Lee’s Great Wall ute off the road and resting in long grass on rain-soaked ground, with “skid marks” from the road to the vehicle.
Lee told police that he “just lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.”
Lee was upfront with police, saying his driver’s licence was currently suspended due to the allocation of demerit points.
Police checks confirmed Lee’s licence had been suspended since December 13 last year.
Lee pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 30 to unlicensed driving.
A self-represented Lee did not make any submission to Magistrate Mary Buchanan.
Ms Buchanan fined Lee $450 and disqualified him from driving for six months.
