A single mum who damaged a Capricorn Coast resident’s mailbox “purely out of spite” has faced court to get her punishment.

Sally-Anne Shannon, 35, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on January 25 to wilful damage.

The court heard that on the afternoon of December 2, Shannon was walking to 37 Monte Carlo Ave, Zilzie, when she entered the front of the residence at number 35, grabbed the mailbox and pulled against it, causing the post to bend.

The court was told that despite the damage, the mailbox was still operable.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said Shannon told police she had done it “purely out of spite.”

The court heard that Shannon had a “very brief” criminal history and it was also “quite dated.”

Solicitor Rebecca Harris said Shannon was a single mother who was currently working for a bond cleaning business.

Ms Harris said Shannon had no prior offending of this sort on her history, and there had been some animosity between her and the victim “for quite a significant period of time”.

Ms Harris said Shannon, who was intoxicated at the time, knew it was “a silly decision” and she regretted it.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert fined Shannon $500 and no conviction was recorded.
