A Central Queensland man who launched a foul-mouthed rant at police officers, calling them “pedophiles and dogs”, has faced court.

Connor Paul Olliver, 20, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to two counts of obstructing police in public while adversely affected, and one count each of public nuisance and shoplifting.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said at 9.30pm on June 21, police were called to a street fight on Auckland Street, South Gladstone.

Mr Boyd said Olliver got into a vehicle which fled the scene.

He said police intercepted the vehicle and Olliver got out and was spoken to by police.

Mr Boyd said police then arrested Olliver for public nuisance and he told officers that he wasn’t under arrest.

Olliver was told that he was under arrest and to sit down.

Olliver refused and then said to a police officer: “F*** you, you f***ing dog.”

Mr Boyd said Olliver then called police “weak dogs” and “pedophile cunts.”

The court heard members of the public were in the area while Olliver was abusing police.

Olliver tried to walk away and when an officer grabbed him to restrain him, he said: “Touch me again and I’ll punch you in the jaw, you weak dog.”

Olliver again tried to walk away from police and he was handcuffed.

Mr Boyd said after Olliver was put in the back of a police vehicle, he told officers he was “too smashed” to remember his address.

In relation to the shoplifting offence, the court heard on March 21, Olliver acted as “a lookout” while a female he was with at Bunnings, removed a $45 deadbolt from its packaging and left the store without paying for it.

The court was told Olliver had assault police and obstruct police offences on his criminal history, along with drug offending.

Solicitor Stephen White said Olliver had worked with a lawnmowing business for three to four years, and he lived with his father in Gladstone.

Mr White said on the day of the public nuisance and obstruct police offences, Olliver was intoxicated after drinking spirits “which he doesn’t usually drink.”

“He cannot handle spirits... he usually drinks beer,” Mr White said.

“He admits that he made a very poor error... he can’t really remember any of the incident at all because of the heavy intoxication.

“He’s extremely embarrassed and remorseful.”

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Olliver $500 and ordered he perform 80 hours of unpaid community service.

No convictions were recorded.
