Rate-paying pensioners could save up to $310 a year thanks to a Gladstone Regional Council concession being reintroduced on Tuesday.
Under the GRC’s 2021/22 Pensioner Concession, which has been increased since last financial year, ratepayers who have recently been granted the pension could stand to pocket the aforementioned amount.
Mayor Matt Burnett said the Queensland Government also provided Pensioner Concession recipients with a maximum subsidy of $200 per annum and a 20 per cent rebate on the State Emergency Management Levy.
“Council’s Pensioner Concession and the Queensland Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme greatly assist pensioners,” Cr Burnett said.
“Council recognises the unique needs of pensioners who want to continue to be independent and live in their own home and the concession is provided to encourage pensioners to do this where possible.”
To be eligible, a person must hold one of the following concession cards:
– Queensland Pensioner Concession Card (issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs)
