Michael Numdi faces Toowoomba Magistrates Court accused of vicious pub bashing at Gatton

A Toowoomba court has been provided with an update on an alleged brutal pub fight which left a young man fighting for his life in hospital.

A Toowoomba magistrate has asked for clarity on the past, current, and potential future health condition of Mike Katui, who the court was told almost died after he was allegedly assaulted by two men at Gatton.

Police allege Michael Numdi, 49, and Michael Moses, 31, were involved in an altercation with the 26-year-old at the Royal Hotel pub.

As a result of the alleged altercation on September 3, Mr Katui was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after sustaining serious head injuries.

He has since woken up from a coma, however it is not yet known to what extent the injuries will affect the quality of his life in the future.

Mr Katui remains in hospital.

When the co-accused’s cases were mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on November 7, the court was told there were a number of medical documents yet to be provided to police or the men’s lawyers.

Magistrate Clare Kelly noted once the medical reports were received, they would likely be complicated.

She said given the court had been told on multiple occasions Mr Katui’s health was significantly deteriorating and he was not likely to live, a basic version should be provided to the court.

Mr Moses remains in police custody, however Mr Numdi is on bail after being released from the watch-house on October 9.

Mr Numdi and Moses have yet to be required to enter any pleas to their charges which included assault grievous bodily harm.

The case will next be mentioned in court on December 5.
