Man hospitalised after suffering critical head injury in Gatton fight
A 26-year-old man has faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court today over an alleged incident at a Gatton pub that has left a man fighting for his life in a Brisbane hospital.

Family and friends are by the side of Mathew Hawkins as the young man fights for his life in a Brisbane hospital after an alleged attack outside a Gatton pub.
Mr Hawkins remains in the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit with a critical head injury he suffered after he was allegedly attacked by Charlie John Coveney, 26, at the Commercial Hotel in Gatton on Saturday.
It is understood Mr Hawkins, 26, has undergone several surgeries to treat serious brain swelling.
Police will allege that Coveney was the aggressor in the incident.
Coveney was arrested on Wednesday and held in custody overnight to face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday morning on one count of grevous bodily harm.
Police will allege that about midnight on Saturday patrons were leaving the Railway Street pub when an altercation ensued between the two men, both aged 26.
Investigators are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or were there prior to or following to contact police if they haven’t already.
