Detectives have arrested a 52-year-old man with a number of offences arising from the death of Queensland businessman Jim Hill.

Police have charged a 52-year-old man arising from the death of Gatton businessman Jim Hill.

Detectives arrested Craig John Vincent on Wednesday evening and charged him with a number of offences including one count each of enter dwelling with intent by break at night, deprivation of liberty, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

His matter was mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday morning and his appearance was not required.

Police allege that sometime between 4pm and 7pm on April 25 the Mr Vincent entered the Hood St home of Mr Hill and assaulted him.

It is understood there was an argument between Mr Hill and Mr Vincent in the days leading up to the alleged assault and that the pair were known to each other for several years.

Mr Hill died as a result of alleged blunt force trauma injuries.

The 76-year-old man was able to contact emergency services via his daughter after the assault

He was rushed to hospital and initially looked like he was recovering before he took a turn for the worse and died on May 5.

Duty lawyer Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Law, asked for a three-month adjournment as the parties wait for a finalised pathology report to confirm a cause of death.

“There is no application for bail and I am seeking that a brief (of evidence) be ordered,” he said.

The matter was adjourned to the Ipswich Magistrates Court on August 16, with a full brief of evidence to be produced by June 27.

Police launched the extensive homicide investigation and cast a wide net as they were looking for CCTV and dashcam footage to identify Mr Hood alleged attacker.
