A candlelight vigil will be held on the beach in Hervey Bay to allow residents to come together to remember the life of slain Uber driver Scott Cabrie.

Mr Cabrie, 47, was found dead near a boat ramp on Power House Rd in Howard on Sunday after being missing for several days.

Police alleged Mr Cabrie picked up three teenagers on February 7 from a home for a fare.

Two of them, an 18-year-old and 17-year-old, have since been charged with murder in relation to Mr Cabrie’s death.

Colleague Yvette Beattie said a candlelight vigil would be held at Torquay Beach next to the sailing club for the community to mourn the beloved Mr Cabrie.

The fellow Uber driver described Mr Cabrie as a “wonderful and lovely person”.

The vigil will be held at 6.30pm on Friday.

Ms Beattie said the vigil would be held for about 30 minutes, with members of the community encouraged to bring their own candles “so we can come together as a community of Hervey Bay and surrounding areas and pay our respects for Scotty”.

She said he was an integral member of the community “in every way possible”.

“He not only serviced the area driving Uber but also worked for the local radio station helping with their promotions,” Ms Beattie said.

“He was loved by everyone he came in contact with and touched many people’s hearts.

“He will be very missed by all of us in the Uber community of Hervey Bay.”
