Hervey Bay community mourns slain Uber driver Scott Cabrie

A colleague of a Hervey Bay Uber driver allegedly murdered while at work has shared a heartbreaking tribute, describing him as a wonderful man who always had a smile on his face.

A Hervey Bay Uber driver allegedly murdered by two teenagers he had picked up for a fare has been remembered as someone who would “do anything for anyone”.

Scott Cabrie, 47, was found dead near a boat ramp on Power House Rd in Howard on Sunday after being missing for several days.

Police alleged Mr Cabrie picked up three teenagers on February 7 from a home for a fare.

Two of them, an 18-year-old and 17-year-old, have since been charged with murder in relation to Mr Cabrie’s death.

The third person was assisting police with investigations.

Yvette Beattie, who worked with Mr Cabrie, said it was a “tragic loss”.

“Scott was a wonderful and lovely person,” she said.

“He will be sorely missed, he would do anything for anyone and always had a smile on his face.”

Uber drivers who worked together in Hervey Bay were close-knit, Ms Beattie said.

Scott Cabrie's body was found at Howard.

She said the drivers were left feeling concerned about their own safety, with Ms Beattie opting not to pick up fares after learning of her friend’s death.

“We’re all feeling it,” she said.

“That could have happened to any one of us.”

Ms Beattie said they had known something was very wrong when Mr Cabrie had not been heard from in a number of days, saying it was completely out of character for him not to be in touch.

“It’s an awful thing to think that he died out there alone and he’s been out there for days laying on his own,” she said.

“What a horrible way to die and a tragic loss for our community.”

The two teens charged with Mr Cabrie’s murder were set to face court on Monday.
