MX Farm at Curra, north of Gympie, will be the place to be this weekend if you love motorbikes and off-road racing.

Former multi-world champion Jemma Wilson is hosting a family ride day for people of all ages, giving everyone a chance to get down and dirty in a safe and fun environment.

Wilson, from Gympie, is an ex-professional off-road motorcycle racer who competed nationally and internationally for more than 10 years.

In her career, she won eight state championships, four Australian off-road championships, and five women’s World Cup Team Championships as well as competing in the World Enduro GPs as a privateer for five seasons.

Wilson said retiring in 2018 was a tough decision after 13 years of competing at the highest level but with events such as this, she gets to continue to enjoy the sport and share her passion with others.

"The family ride day is about creating an environment where everybody, regardless of the age or speed or experience, can come along and enjoy MX Farm," she said.

"It’s an awesome property but it can be a little bit intimidating because you’ve got super-fast guys out on the track all the time.

"So what I do is put riders out in organised sessions where they will be riding with, those with similar ability and speed.

"That means if they’re going up the jumps as a hill climb, then so is everyone else and they don’;t have to worry about being jumped on.

"There’s nothing worse if you’re quite new to riding, having people ride really close to you and get in your little bubble of security.

"We have groups where people can go out and ride super fast and race each other and have their elbows up.

"Then we have groups where everybody’s happy with their little bubble around them and they’ll give each other lots of space."

Wilson said "Sweep" riders would provide support to all riders if needed, while "Pied Pipers" can lead riders around the circuits if they feel the need.

“My Pied Pipers have to be riders that have coaching licences and experience i

n leading riders out, so that they know the right thing to say at the right time," Wilson said.

"It can be quite flustering sometimes out on the bike and if someon’;s telling you to do something and you’re not ready to hear it, it’s not always helpful, so the Pied Pipers are there to help."

For those who want a full two days, camping will be available from Saturday afternoon from 4pm on March 4, with the ride day starting at 9am on Sunday, March 5.
