LOOKING for somewhere to raise the region's next literary genius?

For only the second time since Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers herself was a resident at 331 Kent St, the building is up for sale.

Owned by the state until it was sold to Maryborough's Boyce family in 2008, the property is expected to fetch a handsome sum.

Singing chimney sweeps aren't included but with views of Marybough's historic Portside precinct, the relatively untouched heritage building looks like something straight out of a Disney classic.

Ray White real estate agent Guy Meredith said the property had already generated interest both interstate and locally.

Much of the marketing has drawn on the Mary Poppins legacy with one online ad shamelessly plugging the property as being supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

While he steered away from any further puns, Mr Meredith said there was no question the Mary Poppins link was integral to the property's appeal and gave buyers a unique opportunity to own a piece of history.

Born Helen Lyndon Goff, Travers lived at the property for a short time at the turn of the 20th Century when her father Travers Robert Goff was manager of Australian Joint Stock Bank.

Expressions of interest close at 2pm on September 18.
