A man who threatened to kill another man while wielding a wooden object in the shape of a handgun later stabbed two of his neighbours in the hand during a dispute over tobacco.

Steven Michael Logan pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay District Court to burglary while armed, assault occasioning bodily harm, threatening violence, possessing drug utensils, obstruct police, assault police, committing a public nuisance, wilful damage, breaching bail and failing to appear.

According to court documents, the charges related to two separate incidents.

The first happened on November 1, 2023, about 7.45am.

Logan confronted a man at a residence on Torquay Rd in Hervey Bay and pointed a wooden object shaped like a handgun at a man’s head and said: “I’ll shoot you c**t and I’ll kill you”, the documents state.

Logan pointed the object at the victim for 1-2 seconds and the victim swung a crowbar towards Logan to fend him off.

Logan then left the residence.

About 11.40am that day, police searched his unit and located a water pipe, multiple needles and syringes, the documents state.

The officers located Logan shortly after and detained him for a search.

He physically resisted the officer, kicking out violently.

Logan then damaged interior of the police vehicle by kicking it while being transported to the police station.

He was found to be in possession of metal drug pipe.

Logan was released on bail but later failed to report on multiple occasions.

Then, on December 23, 2023, Logan stabbed two of his neighbours at the unit block where he lived, according to the documents.

About 4pm on that day Logan’s partner, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, visited one of his neighbours with tobacco.

There was an argument as the victims thought cannabis was owed to them, the documents read.

Logan’s partner thought she was there to trade tobacco for cannabis, but the victims took the tobacco and told her to tell Logan it was what they were owed.

The woman left the unit and told Logan what had happened.

Logan was upset and said he was going to go over and stand up for her “because they stood over my missus”, the court documents read.

He then went to the unit with a 20-30cm bread knife with a brown handle and serrated edge on both sides.

He entered the unit through the unlocked front door said he was going to stab and kill the victims unless they gave the tobacco back.

The male victim was backed into the kitchen, while the woman broke a curtain rod in half and used it to get in between the male victim and Logan.

The male victim began to film Logan with his phone, the documents read.

He saw this and approached both victims with his knife, forcing them back.

At one point the female victim pushed Logan away using her hands against his chest.

Logan hit the man’s phone onto the ground and then stabbed the woman’s left hand.

At some point during the altercation, he also stabbed the male victim’s right hand, the court documents read.

Logan then took the tobacco back to his unit, yelling “f**k off, I’ll kill you both. I’ll f**king kill you both c**t. Quit filming me dog. F**king mutts”.

The male victim called triple-0, requesting an ambulance and telling the operator they had been stabbed by a neighbour with the woman suffering three lacerations to her hand and male, one.

Paramedics and police attended the scene and Logan was arrested and taken to the watch-house.

Judge William Everson gave Logan a head sentence of three years in prison with a parole release date set for December 22, 2024.
