‘Only just missed us’: Reckless driver’s near miss captured on video at Hervey Bay

A shaken Queensland dad has shared video of the shocking moment an out-of-control driver’s car came towards him on a busy Hervey Bay road.

The man, who asked for his name to be withheld, was returning home with his wife from visiting his daughter when he narrowly escaped a head-on crash outside the McDonald’s on Boat Harbour Drive in Urangan.

The man was stopped at the lights near the fast-food store when he said a car came recklessly around the corner, with the driver losing control and almost hitting his vehicle.

The car then reversed and left the scene without checking on the occupants in the other vehicle.

“It only just missed us,” the man said.

“We were both a bit shaken.

“It could have been a lot worse.”

The man said the road wasn’t wet and he has frustrated by the driving of some motorists on the Fraser Coast.

A reckless driver almost goes head-on into another vehicle in Urangan.

About a year ago, a driver coming out of the new Anaconda shopping complex had caused a crash that caused another vehicle to go head on with his car, the man said.

Tailgating was a constant problem, as well as impatient drivers and drivers who didn’t know how to use the city’s many roundabouts.

He also described a road rage incident in which he was almost forced off the road by a driver on Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd.

The man said it was getting to the point where he didn’t want to use the region’s roads to visit his daughters anymore because of their concerns about other drivers.

The video was shared to social media this week, with many expressing their concerns about the close call and the manner of driving.

The man confirmed the video had been taken to the police.
