A man has faced court charged with grievous bodily harm after an alleged stabbing in Torquay.

Corey Wade Kelly, 33, had his matter mentioned in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The alleged incident was the second in the same suburb in a week, although Mr Kelly is not accused of any involvement in the first incident.

Police allege the incident happened at a home on Boat Harbour Drive at 9.14pm on Friday.

CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Watts said it would be alleged there was an altercation before a knife was used with a man in his 50s suffering a “significant” abdominal wound following the alleged stabbing.

He was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious condition.

It’s understood the men were known to each other.

Mr Kelly was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned until August 8.

It comes after another man was rushed to hospital following a stabbing at Bill Fraser Park in an unrelated incident on the Esplanade, Torquay last weekend.
