Joseph Garner in court for trespassing, possessing dangerous drugs
A young man who kept returning to his old home where he was once caught ‘peering through a window’ has fronted court for trespassing.

A young man with an intellectual disability has been sentenced to community service for repeatedly returning to a unit complex where he once lived, including one occasion where he was caught “peering through a window”.
Joseph Garner, 25, pleaded guilty to breaching bail, possessing a drug utensil, possessing dangerous drugs and trespassing when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court.
Police prosecutor Sonia Edwards said that on February 19, 2025, officers were called to a man trespassing at a unit block in Lennox St.
The dwelling was owned by Community Lifestyle Agency, which was a home for people on the NDIS, she said.
A description and name was given to police Garner used to live in the unit complex.
Police patrolled the area and located Garner on Adelaide St, where he was arrested for trespassing.
Sgt Edwards said a woman said he had entered the yard and had been “peering through a window and talking to himself”.
She had closed the blinds and he had left.
After his arrest, Garner was released on bail on the condition he did not go near the location, Sgt Edwards said.
On March 5, 2025, police were called to Churchill St in relation to a trespass incident.
The court heard Garner was wanted for breaching bail as he had returned to the unit complex at Lennox St where he had been yelling at staff at the complex.
He was arrested and during a pat down search, police found four grams of marijuana and a pipe in his pocket.
He had previous drug and trespass matters on his criminal history, Sgt Edwards said.
Defence lawyer Morgan Harris said Garner had made “full and frank” admissions regarding the cannabis to the officers and had been cooperative with police.
Garner self-medicated with cannabis, but was working with his doctor to be prescribed cannabis, Mr Harris said.
Garner was now living with his aunt and had told Mr Harris he had no more reasons to go back to the unit.
He was sentenced to 40 hours community service.
No convictions were recorded.
