The Hervey Bay pump track was hit by hoons within 24 hours of being officially opened last Friday, August 9.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said someone was caught on CCTV at the track doing burnouts on the newly laid grass at 7:36pm the next day.

“This pump track is designed to be a safe and fun place for all ages to go and hang out at, so we are extremely disappointed that this has happened to our newest public facility,” Mr Seymour said in a statement.

“We installed CCTV and floodlights at the pump track to ensure the safety and security of everyone who visits.

“We will continue to monitor behaviour at the track to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming place for all visitors.”

Mr Seymour said the incident had been reported to police and the council encouraged any witnesses to also get in contact with the Hervey Bay Police Station.

“The Hervey Bay Pump Track was officially opened last Friday allowing BMX riders, skaters, and scooter riders of all ages and abilities to test their skills,” he said.
