A Pialba woman who assaulted an “acquaintance” after she whispered something about her under her breath has been sentenced in Hervey Bay Magistrate Court.
Emily Rose Munro, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of assault on Thursday morning.
At 1.40pm on December 11, 2023, Munro was at the Pialba Place Shopping Centre when she walked past an “acquaintance” with whom she had previous negative experiences.
Police prosecutor Louese McConnell told the court “while walking past the defendant the victim has whispered something under her breath”.
These words aggravated Munro to the point she turned around and punched the victim in the back of the head.
Police were called to the shopping centre and arrested the 21-year-old.

Duty lawyer Ria Ku said the incident was a result of “an escalation of situations” between the two parties.
“My client is weighing up making a police complaint with regards to other matters involving them,” she said.
She told the court her client had been travelling the world and had returned to Hervey Bay to work as a tobacconist.
Munro was supported in court by her partner.
Magistrate Trinity McGarvie described Munro’s actions as an act of violence.
“The community is entitled not to experience wanton street violence in their lives,” she said.
Mrs McGarvie sentenced Munro to nine months’ probation with a conviction recorded.
