A Brisbane woman has been hit with a hefty fine over a dangerous 4WD stunt at a popular Queensland beach over the weekend.
Queensland Police have fined a 24-year-old Brisbane woman $5805 in relation to a dangerous driving incident at Rainbow Beach on Saturday.
It comes after vision emerged online of a silver Toyota Landcruiser with five people hanging on outside the vehicle, as another four-wheel drive drove alongside it at the popular recreational destination.
The video of the ordeal was filmed and posted to social media attracting widespread condemnation by local residents, four-wheel drive enthusiasts, as well as police.
Cooloola Cove resident Derrin Cook described the incident as dangerous, while Wide Bay Burnett Police Acting Superintendent Paul Algie slammed the driver of the vehicle over their “stupid driving behaviour”.
A Queensland Police Services spokesman said the fine was issued following a police investigation.
“Police issued a 24-year-old Brisbane woman with five traffic infringements totalling $5805 related to a dangerous driving incident on Rainbow Beach on Saturday,” the spokesman said.
“A driving with unrestrained passenger 16 years or older fine is $1161.”
While a male was spotted driving the four-wheel drive by witnesses at the scene, it is understood that the vehicle was registered under the name of the Brisbane woman.
“As a result of police investigations, it was determined that the fines have been lawfully issued to the woman,” the spokesman said.
The woman can contest the infringements in court and get them passed onto the driver if she chooses.
