A former deputy mayor has announced his intention to return to council citing his “proven track record of success” that he says shows his return is more than justified.

Robert Garland will contest the Division 6 seat held by David Lewis who has announced he will not recontest the seat.

Mr Garland served as Division 8 councillor from 2012 until he was unseated in 2016.

He was elected deputy mayor in 2015.

He ran for the same seat in 2020 but was defeated by Denis Chapman.

Mr Garland recently moved into Division 6 and although it is geographically one of the smaller divisions of the Fraser Coast Regional Council, it is one of the most densely populated with more than 8700 voters in the suburbs of Point Vernon, Eli Waters and part of Pialba.
