Driver charged after allegedly ramming police car in Hervey Bay

A driver is facing 11 charges after allegedly ramming a police car in Hervey Bay and then being arrested after getting stuck in the sand.

A driver who allegedly rammed a police car is set to face court in Hervey Bay.

The 31-year-old Toowoomba man was charged with 11 offences following an incident on Palm Way at Dundowran Beach on Monday, May 6.

Police will allege that about 7.20am, officers from the Maryborough station were conducting patrols on Maryborough Biggenden Road at Yerra in relation to a stolen trailer with a mini loader attached.

Police allegedly observed a Ford Ranger towing the trailer and attempted to intercept the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to stop.

About 9am police were conducting patrols for the suspect vehicle and trailer and observed it at the end of the footpath on Palm Way, Dundowran Beach.

A driver has been changed with dangerous driving after allegedly ramming a police car.

It will be alleged that when police drove up to the vehicle, the driver has driven forward, ramming the front of the police car, causing damage to both vehicles.

The driver then allegedly reversed and attempted to drive forward towards the police vehicle again, however, has become bogged, at which point police have apprehended the man.

The man was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, four counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles aircraft or vessels, two counts of stealing of a vehicle, and one count of each driving of a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence disqualified by a court order, an evasion offence, and enter premises and commit indictable offence by break.

The man’s bail was refused and he was expected to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court at a later date.
