IT was a big day out for Fraser Coast locals as they celebrated Melbourne Cup Day at pubs and clubs across the region.

Champagne flowed freely at the Beach House Hotel in Scarness as the ladies donned off stunning dresses and the men rocked classy suits with bright colours the theme of the day.

The highlight of the Fashion on the Fields competition was undoubtedly the choice of one brave soul to wear stunning body paint as her entry.

Tables erupted in celebration when number 3 Without A Fight, ridden by Mark Zarah took the victory and became the 13th horse to complete the Caulfield Cup – Melbourne Cup double.
