RAD Rolled Ice Cream opens to rave reviews on Fraser Coast
A new ice cream venture has hit the streets on the Fraser Coast with this family venture offering a new and improved way to create everyone’s favourite treat.

Those with a sweet tooth will be thrilled to hear a new ice cream van has opened to rave reviews on the Fraser Coast, with some saying it could be the best in the region.
RAD Rolled Ice Cream is the brainchild of businessman Cameron Thomas, and it is a family effort with wife Cristel, son Angus and six-year-old Gracie all involved.
The family have lived in Hervey Bay for 10 years and operate on the Fraser Coast with the bright mobile dessert trailer attending events like as Food N Groove Fridays, City Park Markets, Maryborough and Handmade Artisan Markets.
RAD does not just make traditional run of the mill ice-cream in a cone, they do things a little bit different.
Traditional ice cream is churned, which incorporates air into the mixture, making it lighter and fluffier. However, rolled ice cream is dense, flat and creamier.
Mr Thomas says RAD handmade its own gourmet liquid ice cream recipe fresh on the day of any event and 19 different flavours available.
Once a flavour has been chosen, they pour the liquid ice cream onto freezer plates set at -20 degrees.
They then chop and mix with metal spatulas condiments such as Oreos, Ferrero Rocher's and mangoes.
It is than flattened on the plates, frozen, rolled and stood up in cups, topped with fresh cream, a drizzle of topping and a chocolate wafer straw all which come together to make one mouth-watering dessert.
The family has big plans for the business.
“We are actively working towards opening a store front in Hervey Bay and possibly Maryborough, so locals know where to go when they want to treat their tastebuds,” Mr Cameron said.
He also said the most rewarding part of our new business was seeing and watching children and families enjoy the creations.
