A new hall, more toilets, and a community garden are on the cards for Glenwood under a new draft master plan for how to transform the small town on the border of Gympie and the Fraser Coast.
Fraser Coast Regional Council has unveiled its master plan for the township, located off the Bruce Hwy about 30km north of Gympie, after community consultation with the region.
The plan includes a dozen changes.
These include a new, larger hall further up Pepper Rd, a dedicated Men’s Shed, additional public toilets, and increased parking.
A new, large children’s playground space is planned to be opened near the new hall, while the southern part of a Varley Rd block is proposed to host a community garden with a footbridge crossing the creek to it.
The council revealed the full details of the plan on its website.
It is accompanied by a survey asking for public feedback about the plan.
The unveiling of the plan follows ongoing criticism from residents of the town who have been left frustrated amid claims the rapidly growing township has been continuously neglected.
A single public toilet and nowhere for the town’s children to play were among their biggest concerns.
‘F*** doing 100:’ residents split over speed drop
This lack of facilities was despite the town’s population growing 39 per cent from 2016 to 2021, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics census data.
More than 2100 people now call Glenwood home.
The survey closes on November 19 and can be found at the council’s website.
