Fraser Coast 2023 school captains revealed

The Fraser Coast’s 2023 school captains and leaders have been revealed as they share their goals for the coming year.

With ambitious goals and visions for 2023, the Fraser Coast’s schools are in good hands with this year’s leaders.

The region’s schools have been asked to showcase their leaders for the year, and share what their goals and ambitions are.

Some schools such as Star of the Sea Catholic Primary school have opted against having school leaders and are instead finding ways to celebrate the entire year 6 cohort.

Join us as we celebrate these inspiring students taking their first steps in leadership roles.

URANGAN POINT STATE SCHOOL

Captain: Evelyn Rich, 11

Evelyn wants to be a criminologist and an author.
Evelyn wants to be a criminologist and an author.

Evelyn wanted to become a student leader to help her school become its best and help the students who need it. As captain, she wants to make students feel comfortable and safe.

She loves the students and staff at Urangan Point State school. “They do everything to give us a great education,” Evelyn said.

She also enjoys participating and competing in the Hervey Bay Nippers.

Captain: Omar Salim, 11

Omar want to leave a legacy and hopes that by being a role model, everyone will follow in his footsteps resulting in a safer, happier school.

Omar wanted to become a student leader because he wanted to help fellow students. In his role he’s keen to learn more and improve on his public speaking and confidence.

As captain, he hopes raise money for new soccer nets, basketball hoops and introduce a year 6 market day.

His favourite thing about his school is the “amazing” teachers.

K’gari House Captain: Kimberley Jane Hickman, 11

Kimberley would like to be a teacher when she grows up.

Kimberley has always looked up to the school leaders and wanted to follow in their footsteps.

As student leader, she wants to encourage other students to think big. She loves how at Urangan Point State School everyone looks out for each other.

Kimberley said she was proud to be the first person in her family to have the amazing opportunity to be school captain.

K’gari House Captain: Dajarra Currie, 11

Dajarra would like to play NRL for the Melbourne Storm or the North Queensland Cowboys.

Dajarra wanted to be a student leader so he could be a productive role model for all students.

As student leader, he hopes to give students more of an opportunity to learn the Butchulla language.

“I love all my amazing teachers and peers as they are always there for me,” he said.

Narawi House Captain: Savannah Lier, 10

Savannah wants to be a vet when she grows up, because she loves animals. She especially loves caring for her three cats.

Savannah wanted to be a student leader because she admired the school’s past leaders. She said she wanted to be a good role model for other students.

“I love Urangan Point State School because we always help each other,” Savannah said.

I would like to become a vet when I grow up because I love animals.

Narawi House Captain: Braith Winter, 11

Braith wants to work in the automotive industry when he grows up.

Braith said he wanted to be a student leader to help change the school in a positive way. As Narawi House Captain, he wants to create more positivity particularly on the school’s sports days.

Braith loves the teachers, staff, students and the “fun” learning.

“At Urangan Point State School the teachers create competitions or challenges that encourage us to learn,” he said.

Kyah would like to be a dancer or makeup artist when she grows up.

Kyah hopes to help other students in her role in the student council.

“I love everything about my school,” Kyah said.

Kyah hopes to leave a positive legacy behind when she finishes her primary school education.

As school leader, he wants to raise money to provide additional sports equipment and resources for the school.

He loves the caring environment, quality education and the friendships formed at the school.

Sarah wanted to become a student leader because she wanted to make school somewhere that students want to be. As student leader, she wants to make the school a better place for students.

She loves that, at Urangan Point State School, they all look out for each other. Sarah wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Cash enjoys playing basketball and soccer after school, and would like to be a professional basketball player when he grows up.

He loves all the positive help he gets from his teachers at Urangan Point State School.

When he grows up, Herbert wants to be a police officer so that he can help people in need.

As school captain, he wants to help students with their friendships by teaching them how to be kind to each other and use caring words.

What he loves most about his school is that the teachers care about them and will help them when they need it.

Storm wanted to become school captain because she wanted to prove to herself that she can be brave when talking to large groups of people.

She hopes that, as school captain, people will look up to her because she stands up for her beliefs.

The thing she loves most about her school is the strong supportive network between the students, teachers and families.

Maddison wanted to be a student leader because she loves public speaking, and wanted to be a good role model to her peers.

As school leader, she hopes to become more confident in her public speaking and to have an amazing experience.

She loves how her school is very inclusive and sustainable.

Maddison wants everyone to know that she loves being a student at Sandy Straits and living in the “beautiful” town of Hervey Bay.

After being inspired by the previous student leaders, Hayden wanted to become a student leader so he could represent the school.

As student leader, he hopes to make the school community proud, inspire other students and improve his leadership skills.

Hayden loves the PE program and the supportive community at his school.

As school leader, he hopes to be seen as a good role model and inspire others to do the same.

What he loves most about his school are the friendships he has made and the learning and sporting opportunities.

Sienna wanted to be a school leader to inspire others to do the right thing, and to become a better person.

As school leader, she wants to help teach other students to follow the school rules and hopes to represent her school in a mature, respectful, polite and responsible way.

What she loves most about the school is the kind staff and hardworking teachers.

As school leader, she hopes to achieve equality for all the students at her school.

Meesaa wanted to be school captain, ever since year 3. “I wanted to know how it felt to be a responsible school leader,” she said.

Taneeka wanted to be school captain so that she could be helpful and responsible like the other school captains.

Lealand wanted to become the Borchardt sports captain to help his team to win the 2023 events, particularly cross country.

What he loves most about the school is that there is no bullying.

Charlie wanted to become a school captain, so that they could ensure that everyone is included. His goal as sports captain is to make everyone happy at school.

His favourite part about the school is the library and teachers, and his favourite sport is wakeboarding.

The thing she loves most about her school is the vast opportunities it gives students, such as the agricultural farm, and the chance to take part in school apprenticeships or work experience.

“I am just an average kid who loves cricket, mountain bike riding and I even have a mullet, but I strive to achieve in everything I do,” Curtis said.

Curtis saw becoming a school captain as an opportunity to set a good example for all students.

He has developed lifelong friendships with his peers, and continues to appreciate the opportunities his school has given him.

Curtis is uncertain what he wants to do after graduation, but he is thinking about studying engineering at university.

Trying out for school captain was a “no-brainer” for Faith, after being the school’s vice-captain last year.

As captain, she wants to be a supportive and present figure within the school, and aims to incorporate different elements to enhance the schooling experience, and to renew enjoyment for the students.
