An analysis of national data from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has revealed the schools where teachers have the most students in their classes.
The figures show in 2021 in the Fraser Coast region there were more students per teacher at St Mary's Primary School than any other school.
According to the data – the most up to date that includes all state and private schools nationally – St Mary's Primary School had 18.0 students for every teacher, the highest in the area.
It had 360 students enrolled and 20.0 full-time equivalent teachers.
We reached out to the St Mary’s principal, but they did not wish to comment.

The second highest student-teacher ratios were at Mungar State School where there was an average of 17.1 students for every teacher at the school. It had 41 students enrolled and 2.4 full-time equivalent teachers.
At Riverside Christian College there were 17.0 students for every teacher, the Fraser Coast region‘s third highest.
It had 1469 students enrolled and 86.2 full-time equivalent teachers.
According to ACARA the national student-teacher ratio in 2021 was 13.3 students for every teacher.
At a primary level it is 14.5 and secondary is 11.9.
Catholic schools have the highest national ratios for primary schools with a 15.4 ratio, followed by 14.4 for state schools and 14 for independent schools.
At the high school level, state schools had the highest ratio with 12.4, followed by Catholic with 12.2 and 10.5 for independent.

Meanwhile, the Fraser Coast region‘s least crowded classroom was at Gundiah State School where there was an average of 8.0 students for every teacher at the school.
It had 24 students enrolled and 3.0 full-time equivalent teachers.
Gundiah State School principal Darren Cameron said the figures presented in the 2021 data were “quite out of date”.
A media representative from the Education Department clarified that the school figures were now closer to 12.5 students per teacher at the school, rather than 8. They did not provide any further comments.

Mungar State School: 17.1 students per teacher
Riverside Christian College: 17.0 students per teacher
Parke State School: 16.7 students per teacher
Star of the Sea Catholic School: 16.4 students per teacher
Albert State School: 16.3 students per teacher
Torbanlea State School: 16.2 students per teacher
Xavier Catholic College: 15.9 students per teacher
Sunbury State School: 15.6 students per teacher
Tinana State School: 14.6 students per teacher
