Warrego MP Ann Leahy has reserved her decision on voluntary assisted dying after the controversial legislation was introduced to Queensland parliament.

Numerous MPs recounted their heartbroken losses of loved ones after the bill was introduced on May 26.

The majority of the LNP frontbench have said they were going to read the report, and would consult with their communities or await the outcome of the parliamentary committee probe into the legislation before announcing their intentions.

Ms Leahy submitted an undecided vote when it was called, and said she would reserve her decision until she had read the legislation.

“It’s about three inches thick since the legislation is quite significant,” Ms Leahy said.

“We’re working our way through the significant documents now, and I encourage everyone to do the same.”

Ms Leahy said there was a “lot to digest”, and wasn’t sure how the general public would feel when reading the legislation.

“There’s a lot in it, but it is a step forward that we have this legislation, but we’re going to make an informed decision once we’ve delved into it,” she said.

“We still have a fair bit of reading to do.”

LNP frontbenchers Brent Mickelberg and Michael Hart were the only two LNP MPs to openly support VAD in principle, although both are still yet to make their minds up.

Member for neighbouring electorate Callide, Colin Boyce, did not respond to the legislation when it was tabled.
