Toowoomba’s leading lady of the Darling Downs construction industry is encouraging more women to get involved in the sector as she says the female touch is the missing link to the industry’s growing success.

Revamp Renovations director Eline Lunney was awarded the Women in Building Award at the 2025 Downs and Western Housing and Construction Awards in Toowoomba on Friday, July 18.

Mrs Lunney quit her job in 2021 to work full time for the family business, Revamp Renovations, which revolutionised the way projects are delivered to ensure clients are heard and supported throughout the entire process, from fixtures to studs.

The 32-year-old Toowoomba woman said she’s never looked back and hoped other women in her passion followed suit.

“I thought, ‘why am I working for someone else when we run our own business and I’m doing everything else in the background anyway’,” she said.

“I always had a passion for interior design and I loved renovating, so having the opportunity to focus on what’s important for us and Revamp, we gave it ago and never looked back.”

With a business degree under her belt, and working in the health industry, Mrs Lunney said she quickly realised the business would exceed with the addition of her caring and compassionate side.

“It was a huge point of difference for our business,” she said.

“It’s almost a forgotten little spot within a lot of bussiness, that client space where you can talk to them because the builders on site are so busy they don’t have time.

“They don’t understand that for most people, this is a once-in-a-lifetime situation that they are renovating their home, it could be three months you’re working with someone, and it’s that confidence that they can talk to someone to lead them through it and make sure they are heard.

“It’s the biggest asset we renovate most of the time, so being that point of difference to talk them through every step and say ‘it’s OK if you’re overwhelmed’.”

She said the age-old narrative of the building industry being male-dominated was slowly shifting and for the better, with the addition of communication, passion, and creativity.

“Back in the day, the building industry was just for men but I feel like there’s been a big shift in interior design that’s changed things, and in the decision-making process, which formed that connection between most females in the relationship to make big decisions and choose all the selections,” she said.

“Anyone could benefit from a female on the team, especially in the construction industry, and I encourage any women who may be on the fence about ‘should I take the next step,’ to take the leap of faith, and put your heart and soul into it because we are so passionate and strong.

“I think I had to learn how to be strong over the years, but running a business in general, you have to be a tough cookie and stand your ground.

“I think there are a lot of builders’ wives who might be in the background and hopefully they’re inspired by this… that they might be like ‘hey, I could do that too’.”
