Police prepared for the worst in Dalby on Tuesday afternoon as a “high risk domestic violence” incident unfolded, which required a convoy of Special Emergency Response Teams from Brisbane.

Reports of an incident began to circulate after residents spotted a SERT convoy making its way along the Warrego Highway to the Western Downs town.

A Queensland Police spokesman told News Corp that “someone’s life was on the line”, and the matter was dealt with silently due to fears of the man responding violently to media coverage.

“If he would’ve found out we were coming, someone could have possibly lost their life,” the spokesman said.

“He may have had the jump on us in another ambush type of situation, but we got there silently.”

The man involved was taken into custody by police and the matter resolved peacefully Tuesday evening.

The fears of a police ambush comes just over a month since the tragic December 12 massacre where four Western Downs officers were ambushed and two slain at a Wieambilla property.
