CONVICTION RECORDED
• Claude William Jones
Jones, 39, pleaded guilty to four charges including possessing cannabis and driving under the influence.
The court was told that on November 23, 2024 police intercepted Jones about 1.55pm on Hunter St, Dalby and subjected him to a roadside drug test where he returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.
Jones was also on a learner permit licence at the time and was driving without a supervising driver.
When police attempted to search Jones’ vehicle they noticed him reach into his pocket and place something into his closed fist.
When they asked him what he had in his hand he attempted to hide his hands behind his back before revealing a small tin foil ball containing 1g of cannabis.
Jones told police he had picked up the cannabis for another person with police finding a message on his phone which confirmed this.
The Charleville man was placed on a nine month probation and a conviction was recorded.
NO CONVICTION RECORDED
• Craig Andrew Deering
Deering appeared in court and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence following an incident on December 21, 2024.
The court was told Deering was intercepted on Billabong Lane, Tara about 9.42pm returning a positive reading for cannabis while on a learner licence.
Deering told the court he had smoked a joint earlier in the day and believed the THC was out of his system when he had chosen to drive to a country club for dinner.
He tried to argue with magistrate Kathleen Payne that he lived 3km out of town and wouldn't be able to access food or water but was swiftly told she had no discretion and a loss of licence was mandatory.
He was fined $350 and lost his licence for one month.
• Michael Blair Craig
Craig, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving after being detected on Wharf St Dalby on February 2.
The court was told that about 2.40pm police detected Craig sitting in his Holden Commodore with the engine running and his reverse lights engaged.
When police subjected him to a roadside drug test he returned a positive reading for cannabis and said he had no excuse for why he was driving at the time.
He told police had smoked earlier in the day and the drug was still in his system.
He was fined $350 and received a one month loss of licence.
• Donald Samuel Gammon
Gammon, 57, pleaded guilty to driving unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured and under the influence of drugs.
The court was told he was intercepted on Sandalwood Ave, Dalby on January 8 and returned a positive reading for medical cannabis.
A licence check also revealed he had been unlicensed due to demerit points from December 27.
He was also unregistered and uninsured from the same day.
Gammon told the court he was unaware his license was suspended.
When sentencing Ms Payne took into account that Gammon had been before court for driving offences in 2023.
He was fined $1000, received a three month loss of licence and no conviction was recorded.
