Central Queensland’s rural residents will have faster download speeds and better connectivity with Telstra 5G rolling out in another town.
Middlemount is the latest community to receive the new network for the first time, with mobile site upgrades complete.
“Bringing Telstra’s 5G network to Middlemount for the first time is a game changer and means customers with 5G devices will be able to experience faster download speeds, greater capacity during the busiest times on the network and better connectivity,” Telstra Regional General Manager Rachel Cliffesaid.
Customers must have a 5G capable device and 5G plan to use Telstra’s 5G services, however the recent 5G network upgrade will also deliver improved 4G capacity and speeds in the local area.
“When we upgrade these sites to Telstra 5G, we’re also upgrading capacity on the 4G network, which means better connectivity and less congestion on the mobile network in these places when it’s busier,” Ms Cliffe said.
The latest upgrade is one of more than 3700 Telstra 5G sites on-air in more than 200 cities and towns across Australia.
Blackwater, Middlemount Dysart and Biloela are currently the only communities in regional Central Queensland to have access to the network.
“We’re continually expanding our 5G network with up to 60 new Telstra 5G sites built every week across the country,” Ms Cliffe said.
“We know these mobile network upgrades will make a big difference to locals and visitors and for businesses who rely on connectivity for tourism and trade in these places.”
According to Telstra, more than 75 per cent of Australia’s population now lives in Telstra’s 5G footprint.
