Rural women have the chance to get their hands on $15,000 to support a project, business or program that will benefit rural industries, businesses or communities.

Co-founder of Cattlesales.com.au and Clermont businesswoman, Elisha Parker, claimed the 2020 Queensland Rural Women’s Award and is in the running for the nation award, with the winner to be announced in October.

Minister Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister Rural Communities, Mark Furner is encouraging other women to follow in Ms Parker’s footsteps and apply, with applications open for the 2022 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Awards.

“The Rural Women’s Award empowers and celebrates women involved in Australia’s rural and emerging industries, businesses, and communities,” Mr Furner said.

“Through the Awards program, women are supported in using and further developing their skills in our regions and communities.

“It can help to secure funding for an existing project, business or program which is up and running within three months of submitting your application.”

Mr Furner said location was no barrier.

“If you want to create impact, innovate and contribute to enhancing the prosperity of rural and regional Australia, then this is your chance,” he said.

“Queensland’s agricultural sector thrives under the guidance of skilled rural leaders who are innovative, resilient and grow the industry for a better future.”

Applications for the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award close on Friday, October 8.

The 2022 awards have a $15,000 bursary for the Queensland winner, who will also be considered for the national award to win an additional $20,000 bursary.

There is an additional $15,000 for the national runner up.

The bursary can be used to support a project, business or program that will benefit rural industries, businesses or communities.

The Award also opens doors to professional development and Alumni networks.

Peta Ward, Westpac’s Regional General Manager (QLD), said the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award was a platform that encouraged women to further develop their personal business journey.

“Elisha Parker is a great example of the many incredible women, and the inspiring Rural Women’s Award alumni before her, who are taking the lead in creating their niche while bringing to life innovative business opportunities for her community,” Ms Ward said.
