A 27-year-old Emerald woman has been caught drug driving after being “persuaded to smoke” an illegal substance at a social event.
Kellie Louise Drummond, 27, pleaded guilty at Emerald Magistrates Court on August 3 to driving while a relevant drug was in her saliva.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Drummond was intercepted by police for a roadside breath test about 8.30am on May 19 along the Gregory Highway, about 10km north of Emerald.
While the breath test was negative, a saliva test returned a positive result, with further tests revealing the presence of meth and cannabis.
Lawyer Danielle Lynas Torr said her client, who grew up in Emerald, was persuaded to smoke something illegal at a social event she attended before driving.
The court heard Drummond had only one speeding fine on her traffic history, and had no previous convictions.
Drummond was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for one month. The conviction was recorded.
