Moranbah man, 26, charged after allegedly robbing Mills Ave servo

A 26-year-old Moranbah man has been charged with enter premises with intent, robbery, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

A Moranbah man allegedly robbed a local service station before fighting another man who was left with facial injuries.

Brandon Lee Newey, 26, allegedly entered the United servo at Mills Avenue about 8.30pm on Saturday night, July 31, approached the front counter and demanded money.

Emerald Magistrates Court heard on Monday that Newey allegedly used violence and unlawfully detained the worker. 

He allegedly ran from the location a short time later with a small quantity of money.

About 1am on Sunday, it was alleged that Newey was involved in a physical altercation with a resident outside an Archer Drive address, leaving another 26-year-old man with facial injuries.

Newey was taken into custody about 4am on Sunday and charged with one count each of enter premises with intent, robbery, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He appeared at Emerald Magistrates Court on Monday via video from the Mackay watch house. 

Duty lawyer Sean Gibbs requested a brief of evidence but didn't make an application for bail.

Newey was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Moranbah Magistrates Court on October 7 for a committal mention.
