A growing memorial of flowers, photos and personal items now rests outside the Bundaberg International Motor Inn, where 34-year-old Matty Nilsen was fatally struck by a car last Tuesday evening.
Matty had been riding his bike along Takalvan Street when the collision occurred. He died at the scene.
Police have since charged 21-year-old Lachlan Carver, who has been identified as the driver allegedly involved.
At the site of the incident, tributes have been steadily building.
Among the flowers are a can of green V, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and photos.
One pole outside the motor inn has become a canvas of grief, bearing handwritten messages from loved ones and passers-by.
“RIP buddy, love ya,” one note reads.
Another says, “Miss you big bro.”
A small message written in a child’s hand says, “Luv you dada,” while another reads, “I love you dad, love your baby girl.”
A final tribute reads, “RIP Matty, we love you forever and always and we will miss you forever.”
A drawing, seemingly made by one of Matty’s children, shows a man and child standing side-by-side.
Matty leaves behind children and family who are now mourning the sudden loss of a son, father and friend.
Police investigations remain ongoing.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
