Police have charged 21-year old Bundaberg man Lachlan Robert Carver over the death of a dad in an alleged hit and run.
Mr Carver was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly hitting Bundaberg’s Matty Nilsen and fleeing the scene.
He has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while speeding.
The charge was mentioned briefly in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
Mr Nilsen’s family was visibly upset when hearing that Mr Carver’s appearance in court via videolink had been excused.
Instead, his lawyer Andrew Bale appeared in court via phone and asked that the case be adjourned while he awaited the police brief.
No application for bail was made.
Mr Carver was remanded in custody and the case will return to court for committal mention on July 13.
Police allege Mr Nilsen was hit when the bike he was riding was struck by a black Hyundai IX35 on Takalvan St in Millbank, outside a Bundaberg motel, about 7.50pm on Tuesday night.
The 34-year-old died at the scene.
It is further alleged Mr Carver, from Norville, allegedly fled the scene and was found a short time later.
Police have also confirmed they are investigating reports he and another driver were allegedly “drag racing” at the time but at the time of publication, a second arrest had not been made.
