The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall for the Bundaberg region as of midday Sunday.
Hervey Bay has already experienced intense rainfall, with 108mm falling in just one hour to 6:49am, leading to significant flash flooding.
Residents in Bundaberg, Childers, and Gin Gin are urged to stay informed as slow-moving storms in an extremely moist atmosphere are expected to bring heavy rainfall and the potential for dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding over the next several hours.
Emergency services are advising people to take the following precautions:
Ensure children are with you or a trusted adult.
Park vehicles undercover and away from trees.
Secure doors and windows.
Keep asthma medications close, as storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
Charge mobile phones and power banks in case of power outages.
Place pets somewhere safe and ensure they can be identified if they get lost.
Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary due to dangerous conditions.
Inform friends, family, and neighbours in the area.
Shelter inside a strong building and remain indoors until the storm has passed.
