Queensland Rail seeking community feedback for Bundaberg station upgrade

Travellers have been urged to have their say on their preferred option for a revamp of the Bundaberg railway station.

Queensland Rail is seeking community feedback for plans to upgrade Bundaberg railway station, starting with a series of community consultations to begin on Thursday, May 11.

Options for renovating or repurposing the heritage station building are included in the community consultation feedback form.

One option is to construct a new building on the western or eastern sides of the current station, with the existing building to be repurposed.

Another option is to renovate and extend the existing building “in line with heritage and council guidelines”.

The design proposal includes an airconditioned customer lounge with improved seating and toilet facilities, improved signage, service information screens and an emergency help system.

Upgrades are also proposed to the station car parking to include a drop-off zone integrated with other transport providers.

The proposal features accessibility improvements including tactile ground indicators, handrails, adjustable desk height at the luggage check in and new accessible toilets.

Minister for Transport Mark Bailey said that the Bundaberg railway station upgrade is part of a broader state government initiative to upgrade priority stations in the regional network also including Maryborough West and Rockhampton.

There has been $51m provided for the upgrades across the three stations, Queensland Rail said in September 2022.
