Multiple firefighter crews have managed to extinguish a blaze that quickly enveloped a home in Avondale, near Bundaberg, on Tuesday afternoon.
At least four trucks were on the scene of the fire, which broke out about 2.30pm and quickly engulfed the roof of the low set brick home on Baumanns Road.
A woman holding a baby and visibly upset at the situation on the scene about 4pm was concerned about pet birds that were kept in a cage in the back yard close to the home.
Firefighters assured her the birds had not been killed.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said the roof of the home was “full involved” when crews arrived shortly after 3pm.
Everyone was accounted for, and paramedics were treating one person for as-yet unknown medical concerns.
By 4.10pm there was still smoke billowing from the charred home and fire fighters were still on the scene.
