Two men accused of the armed robbery of the United Service Station on Monday night have had their matters mentioned in court.
Aidan Petar Wilson, 23, and Ethan Alexander Vaughan Connolly, 23, are both charged with one count each of armed robbery in company, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm in company while armed and entering a premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Wilson appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court by videolink from the Bundaberg Watch House on Friday where he made an application for bail.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tina Bland said bail was opposed.
Wilson’s lawyer Matt Maloy, who appeared as duty lawyer, told the court he was instructed his client wished to make an application for bail but didn’t have anything to put before the court to show cause.
The court heard the allegations of the offence involved violence and use of a weapon.
The court heard Wilson had breached bail in the past and had been imprisoned for breaching probation and a suspended sentence.
When considering Wilson’s bail application Magistrate Andrew Moloney said that with the nature of the offence and the allegations of a weapon being used a period of imprisonment would “inevitably follow” if he were to be convicted.
Mr Moloney formed the view that Wilson had not shown cause why a further period in custody was not justified and bail was refused.
Co-accused Vaughan Connolly did not appear but was represented by lawyer Thomas Bray.
Mr Bray told the court Vaughan Connolly’s appearance was not required and that he would not be making an application for bail.
A brief of evidence was ordered in both cases and the matters are expected to be mentioned again on July 29.
Both men were remanded in custody.
