New Optus tower proposed to expand Bundy 4G and 5G network

Telecommunications giant Optus has a plan to boost its 4G and 5G network in Bundaberg but first, this development application for its new tower needs to be approved.

A former fish and chip shop could soon be the location of a new telecommunications pole if a development application is approved by Bundaberg Regional Council.

Stilmark Holdings Pty Ltd recently lodged the material change of use application with council to build a new monopole at 1A Kensington St in Norville.

According to the proposal, the structure would have shrouded panel antennas as well as ground-mounted equipment located inside the vacant property.

Optus says the development would allow the Telco to provide its full range of 4G and 5G services to the area, with significant improvements to current levels of service as a result.

“Four new Optus 4G panel antennas and four new Optus 5G panel antennas stacked on top of the monopole at heights of 20 metres and 22 metres respectively, giving an overall finished height of 22.5m,” the proposal document says.

“The antennas will be enclosed in a shroud to be placed over the top of the monopole, which will screen them from view.

“All cables connecting the cabinets to the antennas will be internal to the monopole, except where they exit the monopole to connect to the relevant antennas, with this point also screened by the proposed shroud.

“The monopole does not have any provision to allow it to be climbed and has the capacity to accommodate collocation.”
