Loved ones are remembering a cherished father-of-three and beloved friend following his death in a tragic workplace incident on a Bundaberg Sugar-owned property last week.
Lachlan Francis died in a farming machinery incident on the property near Childers, on Alfs Rd, about 8.10pm on Tuesday.
The incident has prompted an investigation by the workplace watchdog and left loved ones and the community reeling.
Lachlan’s sister, Britt Francis, remembered him with profound love and admiration.
“My beautiful brother was one hell of a man, there was never a moment he didn’t have us all laughing,” she said.
“He was the most beautiful father to his three children.
“The best son and brother we could have ever asked for.”
Lachlan’s close bond with his brother Jack was a cornerstone of his life.
“He and his brother Jack were joined at the hip,” Ms Francis said.
Family friend Dianna McCosh said Lachlan had been devoted to his children, Ava, Riley and William, and the mother of his three children and former partner Emily Burns, who she said had been left devastated at losing the “love of her life”.
“Lachlan was a strong man of his convictions, even travelling to the ACT to participate in the freedom marches with his family,” Dianna said,
“He loved his family and they were his world.
“Emily and the children have been devastated by the loss of Lachlan and are absolutely shattered that daddy won’t be coming home again.
“We call on the local community to continue to lift up Lachlan’s large family as well as his own little family in prayer and support in the days to come.
“Lachlan there won’t be a day that you’re not remembered and missed,” Ms McCosh said, adding that his legacy would live on through his children and Emily.
Ms McCosh said while Lachlan and Emily were separated at the time of his passing, they were working towards a reconciliation when the tragic accident happened.
“No one could have foreseen this tragic event,” she said.
Clay Rees, a close friend of Lachlan, echoed these sentiments, highlighting Lachlan’s unwavering loyalty and the strength of their friendship.
“If I was stuck in a situation, he would be the first I would ring,” Mr Rees said.
“He would do anything for me as I would for him.
“Rest easy, mate. Till we meet again.”
Lachlan’s brother Drew also shared his heartfelt tribute, painting a picture of a dedicated and loving man.
“Lachlan was a hardworking family man, brother, father, and partner,” he said.
“He was my best mate, closer than a friend.
“He left his mark in this world, and none of us will ever forget it.”
The incident, which occurred on a sugar cane farm owned by Bundaberg Sugar, has led to an investigation by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
Bundaberg Sugar also expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of Lachlan, a valued employee.
“This employee was a valued member of the Bundaberg Sugar team and our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go to the family, friends, and community,” a spokesperson said.
“Our focus is on the employee’s family and ensuring they are well supported at this incredibly difficult time. We will also ensure this support extends to our employees who were directly involved in the incident. We are taking steps to understand what has happened and are working closely with the relevant authorities.”
Police have stated that they will prepare a report for the coroner.
Meanwhile, the community has come together to offer their condolences and support to the Francis family during this tragic time.
“So sad to hear condolences to the family,’’ one resident posted, a sentiment echoed by many.
