Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie to get NBN boost

Dozens of suburbs across the Wide Bay Burnett will become eligible for faster internet speeds as nbn and the federal government announce a million home rollout expansion.

Millions of new homes across the state will become eligible for full fibre nbn as the broadband rollout continues across the country.

Suburbs in Bundaberg, Gympie and the Fraser Coast have been added to the list, following a $2.4bn investment from the federal government.

The rollout will allow more Wide Bay Burnett residents to connect to “faster speeds and more data,” an nbn spokesman said on Monday.

Online health consultations, online education and those working from home have increased dramatically during the Covid-19 period.

“The benefits are even greater for larger households with many high bandwidth devices being used at the same time,” an nbn spokesman said.

“More speed is better for when the whole family is streaming online at the same time – working from home, gaming, and watching movies.”

The connection is said to be more effective than existing copper connection, and nbn said the fibre cables will reduce ongoing maintenance and operating costs.

Chief operating officer Kathrine Dyer said it will offer the fastest residential speeds available.

“We are unlocking social and economic benefits across Australia by pushing fibre deeper into communities,” she said.
