Get back to work.
That’s the blunt message from many Queenslanders as fears grow the militant CFMEU will hold construction projects to ransom in retaliation for the mass sacking of hundreds of union officials.
Widespread protest rallies were planned across the state, with the CFMEU threatening revenge against the federal and state governments and warning it is gearing up for a long war.
The militant building union was plunged into administration by the federal government – supported by the state government – last Friday.
About 280 CFMEU officials, including 21 in Queensland led by state secretary Michael Ravbar, were sacked.
On the eve of rallies in Brisbane and Cairns, the CFMEU’s Queensland/Northern Territory branch launched an attack video, prompting Brisbane’s building and civil construction stakeholders to quietly prepare for disruption to projects by the union in retaliation for the administration.
Major state government projects including Cross River Rail and the Centenary Bridge duplication site – both previously the scene of union-related incidents – are the most at-risk of disruption.
Treasurer Cameron Dick said on Monday he was not concerned about retaliation on government projects.
Readers, too, vented their frustration.
Many urged workers to return to sites and get on with things; others said this was another sign of a Labor failure.

Workers? Wouldn’t know what a hard days work is. Try going to a farm for a day.

Their shirts and placards say it all. They don’t want to work, they just want to blue/fight.
Pamela
Our building projects have been held to random for years. So how can they do more harm than they already have.
Ted
So they’ll do their normal ‘half day’ work and pub by lunch having a coldie
Ross
The Union needs a new shirt printed in the slogan “The End Is Nigh”. Won’t happen soon enough. If Labor won’t help them I wouldn’t be waiting for the LNP to come to the rescue. Hahaaaa
Steven
Where is Giggles he is not a leader, what is his position on this.
They can’t do this
Ken
Why were they given a permit to march, they are irrelevant now.

Just get the banks to freeze their bank accounts and call in loans to be paid back in full by week’s end, they will soon surrender.

Bring back the days of Joh. He would have sorted them out. CFMEU is run by bullies who like to initimadate those who just want to earn an honest living. Unions in the workplace certainly have their place but only if demands are reasonable. Much Higher wages will only send the cost of living up which impacts those on lower wages
Paul
They’d better be careful, it’s supposed to be hot for the next couple of days so I hope all safety protocols are in place or they might be facing a conundrum and be forced to stop protesting, down tools and go home as per their own condition requests …
Another CFMEU mess

Attacking the “working class” … what a joke!
Denise
Toddler tantrum. I hope this is ignored. Lock all projects until they are prepared, not just to work, but to work for reasonable pay levels. These bullies earn way more than a pile of people who also do unsafe or essential work. They need to get over it, the game is up, and their own greed killed it

This is Australia under Labor. Unions have been allowed and encouraged to run wild. Now we face the consequences.
Garth
Deregulate them, stop pussyfooting around.
