Steven Miles’ red wine escapade has become a doozy of a boozy debate.
Two photos of the former Premier enjoying a drink while returning from flood-ravaged Townsville sparked a new war among MPs – and among readers – amid warnings their private actions are no longer off limits.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie tabled two photos of the Opposition Leader Mr Miles drinking in the Qantas Club and on a flight after touring Townsville during the floods two weeks ago.
He was with Labor’s Disaster Recovery spokeswoman Nikki Boyd.
Mr Bleijie claimed Mr Miles was on social media posting about flood victims “to pretend that he was at this bridge and meeting all the workers and all this sort of stuff”.
“I table photos, he was on the red wine in the Qantas lounge while he was tweeting,” Mr Bleijie said.

“It wasn’t enough in the lounge. He was on the plane. Here’s a photo on the plane having another red wine while he was tweeting.”
It drew outrage on the opposition benches, with Deputy Leader Cameron Dick labelling the photos “stupid” and warning government members would now be watched closely.

Typical Labor
paul
Working for his tax payer job whilst drinking free tax payer wine. That is just normal and accepted by Labor.
Jim
So funny listening to Dick whinging now he’s the opposition
Mario
Seen many times drinking wine! Comes with Labor entitlement!
Alice
Red wine in a disaster zone? Terrible.
Drink up, Giggles
Ian#2
He probably needs a few red wines to numb the pain, now that he’s had time to reflect upon his management of the state. A lot more of this to come.
CHRIS
Giggles won’t even be the leader by the next election.
Like another pinot noir Mr. Miles?
Rob m
Disgraceful behaviour
Abigail
Good to see the kids are back playing their usual games in the schoolyard once again.
Thomas
The good news is Miles is no longer the Premier, but the bad news is he is still in the parliament and flaunting his taxpayer-funded privilege with his same old distasteful arrogance.
Give it a rest
Jane
Why on earth can he not have a glass of wine while he is tweeting? A big noise about nothing! Find something worthwhile to whinge about …. the homeless crisis maybe?
Stevie
Gee I wish elected officials could simply focus on the important issues. Rather than looking for opportunities to put the biff in, look for and execute on opportunities to improve our current challenges. Stop the pettiness and lead.
Simon
I am no Miles supporter, far far from it, but this is just nonsense.
Terry
Who cares if he had a glass of wine. It’s irrelevant
Brett
It OK for Crisafulla to eat pies so why not have a red wine
