Brisbane's plans for the 2032 Olympic Games have been going nowhere fast - now there are calls to finally meet the deadline or move on. HAVE YOUR SAY

Senator Bridget McKenzie insisted in April 2024 that “nothing has been done” for the 2032 Olympic Games.
By February 2025 the Australian Olympic Committee chief executive issued a stark new deadline for the fast-approaching Brisbane Olympics, warning key decisions on infrastructure need to be made within months for the Games to be a success.
Matthew Carroll said the Queensland and federal governments would need to make their final decisions on venues for the sporting extravaganza by July.
“I think it is time to finalise anymore reviews and settle on exactly what the two governments want to fund in terms of venues,” he said at a senate hearing into preparations for the Games on Friday.
The much-vaunted stadium debate appears to still be rumbling on, leaving many readers to declare the time is nearing to ditch the 2032 bid completely.
Readers were quick to pile into the debate, with fresh calls to axe the Games from many.
Others, though were more positive and backed them to thrive.

I'm a fan
It seems to be forgotten that the Olympics come with a billions of revenue also plus all the indirect spending on tourism etc. So you get intergenerational infrastructure for not as much as is being made out.

Let’s be positive and run the Olympics ,remember Sydney ,it was a sight to behold. The whole thing has turned into a laughable shambles with a million comments most bordering on stupidity?
We can afford it. Economic conditions are improving slowly.
Cancel the Games
Look is there any chance that this government will just stop this madness.
Just Remember - Queenslanders didn't ask (nor were we asked) if we wanted these games....to spent so much money on a "want" instead of a "need" is just irresponsible...
Bill
Queenslanders were never asked whether they wanted a Treaty with the Aboriginal people or whether they wanted to be locked out of large tracts of land “handed back” to Aboriginal people.
Government by the people for the people appears to be an alien concept for the LABOR Party!
Dylan
Qlders were never asked if they wanted the Games. Other states did not want them so Qlders and Brisbane ratepayers will bear the brunt in increased costs of utilities in the State.
Lyn
How much has been spent on these Olympics already and not one thing has been done. We the Public would like to know the amount it has cost so far. State and Federal.
Hmmm .......
CANCEL the Olympics and put the funds to other much needed projects eg Bruce Highway.

Doesn’t get more disgraceful than this. Shows this government is all about staying in power and playing political games and they don’t care about wasting our money to do it. The latest fiasco has Miles DNA all over it.

Firstly, we did not win the bid, it was given to us because no one wanted it. Steven Miles clearly does not want it either. Probably because he realises what a massive waste of money it is.
We have big issues!
The last people we want to her from is the olympic committee.
My two cents
Considering the most important question of do we want the games was never asked, the clear majority of people not being excited for the games should be investigated further. A yes or no poll for the Olympics on state election day should be held to decide if the event goes ahead.
Matthew
Incompetent politicians are ruining our Country
Ross
Disappointing leadership in a state with so much potential. Queenslanders deserve better.
