Most Queenslanders don’t want daylight saving.
In fact, most don’t even want to talk about it.
But those that do have weighed in by saying those who can’t grasp how it would work are ‘clowns’.
The state’s rejection to proposals about changing our clocks would fail before it even starts based off reader comments and voting on the subject.
As revealed in November 2023 a referendum on daylight saving held in Queensland today would more than likely fail, according to exclusive polling.

Even in Brisbane less than half of respondents to the YouGov poll supported daylight saving.
But the result among regional Queenslanders was as unequivocal as it was at the 1992 referendum — a hard no to daylight saving.
The YouGov poll of 1013 Queenslanders, conducted between October 4 and 10, revealed 47 per cent were against daylight saving, 41 per cent for and 12 per cent did not have a view.
In Brisbane, 48 per cent of respondents wanted daylight saving while 40 per cent rejected the idea.
A whopping 60 per cent of regional Queenslanders said no to daylight saving while 25 per cent approved. 15 per cent of regional Queenslanders were undecided.
Ardent supporters of daylight saving — including Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate — remain undeterred with Cr Tate stridently calling for a referendum to be held in March 2024 alongside local government elections.
“We now live in a borderless, global commerce world and these split time zones are costing both NSW and Queensland billions in lost productivity,” Cr Tate said.
Beyond that, almost 60 per cent of more than 6000 voters in a poll asking if they want a referendum on the matter rejected that notion.
Readers were quick to weigh in on the contentious topic, with most appearing to reject the notion; others were even more forceful and insisted anyone who didn’t like it should move states.

It’s just crazy talk

all these clowns say it’s an extra hour of daylight. are you high? do you cut the bottom off a blanket and sew it on the top of the blanket and think you have a longer blanket? if you want businesses open then change your business hours, get up earlier, stop trying to force your wants on other people. qld has said no multiple times. that's it.over. if you don't like it, leave
Sandy
What a joke! Palaszczuk doesn't want a referendum that will divide Queensland but was happy to back a referendum which would have divided Australians.
Blackstar
If people want to fall into line with other states, let them get up an hour earlier and start work an hour earlier, problem solved, no need for a costly referendum.
Darryl
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DIVIDE THE STATE. Central and North Queensland will be happy and the Brisbane and Gold Coast mayors will be happy. Problem solved.
Qld can’t get it right
Daryl
Like toddlers, Queenslander’s favourite word is NO.
Pieeater
Every year the same question. Every year the same response, No.
Darrel
More people said NO to DS than yes. … The people have spoken the majority is NO TO DS. Hope this is the last time we will be hearing about this DS nonsense.

Strange Queenslanders can’t work out how, Queensland is very different to the southern states.
DLS may benefit the SE corner, only, for about 3 months, but it goes on for 6 months.
For those that can’t get their kids out of bed now imagine getting them up an hour earlier.
Don’t like it? Get out
Lyn
Can always move back over the border. Problem solved.
Nancy
Selfish people who care for only themselves. Anyone can put the clock forward if they wish just let the rest of us alone.
ROBERT
If you want daylight savings move to the Southern States
Yes to DS!
Steve
Makes no sense for the rest of the country to have daylight savings whilst stupid Queenslanders argue against it, tell me one good reason we should not have daylight savings and I will give you a thousand why we should!
Pending, Always Pending
Just over 1000 people surveyed does not make it a comprehensive survey. Every person I know who lives in Queensland wants daylight saving and are sick of being 1 hour and 25 years behind the other eastern states.

I would love daylight saving. Would be nice to have variation in what you can do during the day. It’s light far too early and then you can’t do anything at night as it’s dark by 6pm. 365 days of sameness
Geoffrey
The problem is the time zone is wrong as it’s worse in winter with darkness at 5:30 pm. Australia is too wide and should be permanently changed in Brisbane.

Something with cows? Curtains? Under a rock. bring on Daylight saving.
