Should Qld have daylight saving: What you said

Debate over bringing daylight saving to Queensland has turned into an almighty war of words. JOIN THE CONVERSATION

Fresh calls for daylight saving in Qld

To daylight saving or not to daylight saving?

That is the question for Queensland – again – after it was revealed in September 2023 that the contentious topic has been revived.

Two thirds of Queenslanders would support the introduction of daylight saving in the state, a new study found.

Daylight saving kicks in at 2am on October 1, when southern states turn the clocks forward to allow “extra” daylight hours.

Clocks will then be turned back one hour on April 7, 2024, when summer months end and there is less light.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has long rejected the idea, again reaffirming her position during a media conference in Cairns.

When asked her position on daylight saving and whether Queensland should consider a split timezone, the Premier swiftly dismissed the idea saying: “I believe in one Queensland, not a divided Queensland”.

However readers remain divided on the topic, sparking strong debate.

WHAT YOU SAID

It’s time to bring it to Qld!

Jason

Qld lives in the dark ages. not sure why we would even need to vote just do it.

Mike

AP Hypocrisy yet again. Divides the state economically, all our money thrown at the SE corner but ignores the stupidity of having a City like the Gold Coast with 2 time zones. Draw a line at eg Bowen and get on with it.

Brad (constantly censored)

If the SE corner wants it that badly, then the easiest and best way to get it is to make the SE corner of Qld the NE corner of NSW.

Nick

Daylight savings would he awesome. I rather the sun comes up at 5.30am then at 4.30am. But sunset at 8 then at 7

Charlie Don’t Surf

I could use daylight at 7:30pm. I can’t use it at 5am. QLD had daylight saving during WWII as an energy-saving measure!

No way!

Melissa

After growing up in Sydney I love having no daylight saving in Queensland. If Brisbane want it so badly give it to them but leave the rest alone.

Peter

Must be that time of the year again. The old chest nut, do we want DLS or not. Definitely a ‘no’ from me!

John

Bjelke Peterson gave us a trial run in the early 70s. It was overwhelmingly rejected by the public.

Troy

You moved here – you play by our rules – NO to Day Lights Saving.

Gordon

Don’t do it. Terrible situation. QLD has had two goes at it. We don’t need it.

I’m still not sure what to do

Brent

The amount of sunlight doesn’t change, it’s how you manage it.

Blackstar

Here we go again, same old same old, give it up, if you want it, move, the only reason the number of those wanting it increases is because all the southerners are moving here.

Dave

The people who don’t want Daylight Savings are the same ones that complain about the birds waking them up at 4am

Just Delete Me

Yeah the southerners have moved up here and brought their silly ideas with them

Axel

No one North of Noosa or West of Toowoomba wants or needs daylight saving for any reason in Summer, now if you had it in winter it would be a different story altogether.

William

Give SEQ Day Light Saving and Give Regional Queensland STATEHOOD!
