Over the waiting game: Those bloody Warrego Hwy delays!

BLOG: 60ish and Loving It's Di Warr is slightly peeved by the number of road works and delays heading west on the Warrego Hwy.

IS IT just me or are there other people too starting to get a bit peeved with the number of road works and delays heading west on the Warrego Highway?

I travel this road frequently and I wish it could be said that progress is being made.

Last Friday, I again had to travel this road on my way to Chinchilla. What used to be a nice country drive turned into a long arduous journey.

Now I understand work has to be done, but it appears that this is a never ending project.

One hesitates to think just what the blow out cost of these road works will be.

On my recent journey there were electronic sign boards at one section of road works (at least it flashed me a happy face to let me know I was not speeding), at another the normal manned stop-and-go set up, then I got to be part of a cavalcade of vehicles being escorted by a pilot vehicle through yet another section.

And last but not least policeman and vehicle strategically placed to... you guessed it... guide us through MORE road works.

All of this just to travel to Chinchilla. I hate to think what the rest of the journey and road would be like travelling to Roma. I think I will give that trip a miss for awhile. A long while.

At one stop alone other day there were SIX trucks in front me, more behind and cars both in front and behind my vehicle as well.

Talk about a trigger to set off road rage.

This situation would test anyone's patience. It would be more tolerable if this only happened at one stop but it goes on and on with drivers taking risks at times trying to pass the convoy of trucks.

The other thing I noticed on this trip was that some sections of road that have just been repaired are in need of repairing again.

On talking to some other regular travellers on this road they too don't think these road works will ever be finished as it appears the project is going around in circles... replace roads, repair roads, replace, repair, round and round it goes.

I just wish I knew where the bottomless pit of money is hiding that is funding this project.

Don't get me wrong I am not having a go at the workers at these road works.  I think they do a great job in what appears to be very stressful circumstances at times.

Maybe their bosses and the ones that had the job to draft the master plan and how it was going to be implemented for these road works should spend not just a day working at the coal face but a full week.

Then maybe they would be able to come up with a better plan to elevate the long delays at all these road works and keep the traffic flowing.

Can someone also tell me why side road detours have not been put in place here  whilst these roadwork's are taking place.

I don't buy the fact it would cost too much given the number of workmen on the job and the slow pace repairs are being undertaken, making a side road would in my opinion be a very cost effective option to help KEEP THE TRAFFIC MOVING.

And it is not that they don't have the room to build side road detours either.

If they can build and set up side road detours down the range and at many other locations where there is a high volume of traffic, why can't the same been done here?
