It is turning out to be a longer process than anyone would like.

But we also have a real focus on the region's future leaders.

Our My First Year feature showcases 2320 bright young faces who are just beginning their school journey.

What an exciting time for them and their parents.

Now might be the right time for those of us who are helping shape the city's future to take a good hard look at what these youngsters might face in about 20 years' time.

Are we making the decisions that will let them inherit the wonderful city that we currently live in?

When the council is finally formed we need to ensure the decisions they make are strongly focussed on making our city the best it can be.

All pledged to keep our city one of the best in Australia.

For all our sakes, and especially those 2320 youngsters featured today, let's hope the councillors all live up to their promises.
