IS THERE a more exciting time of year for sports fans than right now?

The footy finals are here.

I love this time of year and it's not simply because I'm a Sport Editor.

I love it because it's a time of promise, passion and raw emotion.

It's a time when even the most casual of fans can be caught up in the excitement that is finals footy be it at a local level or on the national stage.

I played in my fair share of soccer finals as a kid and young adult and my record is probably around the 50/50 mark.

The results honestly don't matter a lot to me though because every match win, lose or draw meant something special.

Don't get me wrong the loses hurt - a lot - but there were times when making the final was an achievement in itself.

Times when the journey, fighting every step of the way with fantastic team-mates meant more than a win.

Times when lifting the trophy was a relief after a pressure-filled year.

So all I can say now to our finals footballers is find a reason to enjoy the moment - no matter the result.
